Wabi-Sabi – JSKD Joint Training
What a great day we had on the 9th July with Wabi-Sabi, we started with a gentle warm up on a very warm day. I have a way of booking events on the warmest days of the year so far. We had 23 participants which was ideal for the size of the hall and had a good representation from both clubs. We started with Karate where we looked at a few techniques and the application of each. We finished with a Kihon kata and mixing it up with kicks. A break for lunch followed and then we handed over to Callum for Taekwondo, he started with some gentle warmups utilising pad work too and then moved on to some kicking drills building and the difficulty each drill, finishing up with some Poomsae. To finish the seminar we had some kata/poomsae demonstrations from the black belts from both clubs.
After the seminar we had a raffle for further funds and all funds from the seminar and raffle were put towards Jade Aid, with a total of £400 raised. Thanks to all participating from both clubs it was a really enjoyable day and great to meet like minded martial artists.
Black Belt Grading
On the 4th June we held a Black belt grading, candidates were tested on knowledge and also had a prior teaching exam and submitted an essay prior to the grading. All candidates were put through their paces over 3 and 1/2 hours pushing them to their boundaries. All did fantastic and overcome all thrown at them and we were able to award, Lisa Simpson 2nd Dan, Rebecca Pearson 1st Dan, Liam Lincoln 1st Dan and James Jones Shodan Ho.
